ST. PAUL – Rep. Erin Murphy (DFL-Saint Paul) will be introducing legislation today to guarantee preschool education for all children in Minnesota. Last session Rep. Murphy worked to secure the passage of all-day, every-day kindergarten for the children of Minnesota.
Rep. Murphy said, “This gives parents and families choices for their children. As we pursue investment in education this session, universal preschool must be a part of the discussion. It is something I believe in as a proven strategy for young learners across the state of Minnesota. We must act now to prepare future Minnesotans for a changing economy with strong critical thinking, vocational and technical skills. Universal pre-K should be a part of a functioning high quality childcare and early learning structure in Minnesota.”
"This effort will move us one step closer to closing the achievement gap and reducing poverty for the next generation. We can achieve that with strong education, a strong, well prepared workforce and jobs for the future. This investment moves us concretely in that direction."
