REP. LOON NAMED CHAIR OF EDUCATION FINANCE COMMITTEE
Loon to oversee and manage $17 billion, largest area of the state budget
ST. PAUL, Minn.—State Rep. Jenifer Loon, R-Eden Prairie, today was named chair of the Education Finance Committee for the 2015-2016 legislative sessions. Education for children through high school comprises the largest area of the state budget, and Loon will be in charge of overseeing and managing nearly $17 billion.
“As legislators, it is our responsibility to ensure that every child in Minnesota is educated to his or her greatest potential,” said Loon. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on initiatives that will result in better educational outcomes for our students—our future workforce.”
Loon has been a long time, vocal advocate for Minnesota students and better outcomes in education. She has offered legislative initiatives to help close the achievement gap, keep locally-established academic standards high, and provide families options best suited to their children’s educational needs. In addition to supporting reliable funding for schools, Loon has voted to enhance local control over school district policies to relieve them of burdensome state mandates.
Loon currently serves as Deputy Minority Leader of the House Republican Caucus. She was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2008 and will begin her fourth term when session begins in January.
