News from Representative Wills 07-15-2014

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Dear Friends,

This email update will be my last one for 2014. State law prohibits mass mailings or email updates from legislators from July 15 through November 4th.

I am still able to respond to questions, comments, or requests for assistance for constituent service issues that may arise after July 15th, so please don't hesitate to contact me at rep.anna.wills@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-4306.

As I stated last week, I remain committed to being there for you in whatever way possible until my first term officially concludes in January 2015. I will continue to post legislative updates on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/repannawills.

Here are some additional updates:

District 196 School Board Meeting
Yesterday, July 14th, I attended and spoke at the District 196 School Board meeting, giving a brief update on some of the K-12 Education legislation passed during the last legislative session, including: increased school lunch funding for low-income students, increased education funding, and allowing District 196 to use lease levy revenue to purchase a bus transportation hub which will save the District about $500,000 a year.

As a member of both the K-12 Education Finance and K-12 Education Policy committees in the Minnesota House, it has been a pleasure to work on education issues on behalf of District 196.

Minnesota Zoo Autism Camps
This summer the Minnesota Zoo is partnering with the Autism Society of Minnesota to offer four summer camp opportunities for children with autism. As a former care provider for a child with autism, I'm excited to see these camps being offered so these children can enjoy the Zoo.

The final class for the summer for teens age 15-18 will take place on August 4-8. Financial assistance is available to help defray the cost of the camp. Keep an eye on their page for future camps if these classes are of interest to you or someone you know.

Leprechaun Days
I look forward to seeing many of you at Rosemount's Leprechaun Days is coming up July 18th-27th. This celebration is a great community event and opportunity to gather with friends and neighbors to celebrate the city of Rosemount. The Grand Parade will take place on Saturday, July 19th, with the main fireworks show taking place on July 26th.

For a full schedule of events and more information on Leprechaun Days, please visit their website at http://www.rosemountevents.com/Leprechaun

Ben Kopp Memorial Ride
Last night I also attended the Rosemount Beyond the Yellow Ribbon meeting, where we discussed several upcoming events in the community. One of these events is the Ben Kopp Memorial Ride, coming up next weekend, Friday, July, 25th and Saturday, July, 26th.

For more information on the Ben Kopp Memorial Ride, which honors the lives and sacrifices of our men and women in the military and raises money for veterans organizations, please visit the Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/719003728121919/.

Please keep in touch throughout the summer, and don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance. It's truly been an honor to represent the communities of Apple Valley, Rosemount, and Coates for the past two years, and I'm grateful to each of you who have contacted me with questions or comments about our work at the legislature. Your involvement has helped me be a better legislator, and better represent our community. I hope these email updates have been informative and useful to you, and look forward to seeing you around town this summer.

Sincerely,

Anna Wills
