STATE REP.-ELECT PETER FISCHER APPOINTED VICE-CHAIR OF HOUSE ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES POLICY COMMITTEE

ST. PAUL – State Representative-Elect Peter Fischer (DFL-Maplewood) was appointed by Speaker-Elect Paul Thissen to serve as Vice-Chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committee in the Minnesota House of Representatives. As Vice-Chair, Fischer will help lead new discussions on how to best preserve Minnesota’s natural resources for future generations. Additionally, Fischer will serve on several key House Committees including: Heath and Human Services Finance, Housing Finance and Policy and Labor, Workplace and Regulated Industries for the 2013-14 Session.

“I’m honored that Speaker-Elect Thissen has assigned me to these very important committees and for the opportunity to work closely on many of the issues my constituents care most about,” said Rep.-elect Fischer. “We’re fortunate to live in a beautiful state with great outdoor experiences, it’s important for our quality of life and our long-term health that we protect our environment. State policies on health care, housing and the workplace have a huge impact on the daily lives of those residing in District 43A and across the state,” added Fischer.

Fischer spent 18 years on the Maplewood Parks Commission, serving as chair for 10 years. He earned a Public Service Award from the Friends of the Parks and Trails of St. Paul and Ramsey County for his efforts. Currently, Fischer is the Director of Finance and Operations for a homeless youth shelter in North Minneapolis where he has helped restore financial accuracy and stability.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve my state and community. It is an honor to represent the people of District 43A and I am eager to roll up my sleeves to work on issues that will bring positive change to our communities,” Fischer concluded.

Minnesota’s 2013 Legislative Session will officially convene on January 8, 2013 when all 134 State Representatives will be sworn into office during a ceremony at the State Capitol.
