News from Representative Wills 05-17-2013

Friday, May 17, 2013

Dear Friends,

Some updates from Saint Paul:

Under 80 hours left

We are down to the last few days of the 2013 legislative session. Unfortunately, with very little time remaining, we have passed very little of the budget that we were sent here to complete. It's crunch time, and we have yet to even see many of the bills that will make up the vast majority of the 2014-2015 budget.

I am disappointed that we are so crunched for time, and as a result will have significantly less time for the public to review and offer input on the final budget bills that come out of conference committee. I think Minnesotans deserve better than this, and deserve a higher degree of transparency from government. There's no reason we couldn't have had these bills passed and signed into law 3 weeks ago.

I will be sure to keep you updated on the progress of the budget. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions in the final hours of session.

Legacy Conference Committee

I am humbled to share with you that I was appointed as the lone House Republican to the Legacy Bill Conference Committee. It's a truly unique opportunity to serve on a conference committee as a freshman legislator. We have already started to meet and are hard at work resolving the differences between the House and the Senate versions of the Legacy Bill in order to produce the best bill possible before sending it back to both bodies to be voted on. If passed by both, it will head to the Governor's desk to be signed into law.

Visits

Thanks so much to Jayne and Larry from Lutheran Social Services for visiting the Capitol on Tuesday. It was great to visit with them during their stop at the Capitol. If you are planning on visiting Saint Paul any time before the close of session, please let me know so we can arrange a time to meet. You can reach my office at 651-296-4306 or rep.anna.wills@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Anna Wills
State Representative, District 57B
