To the Editor:
A new effort was launched last week to engage Minnesotans in the process of reforming government that I want to encourage area residents to take part in. Called “Reform 2.0” the plan is the first step in forming the agenda for the 2012 legislative session.
There are several ways for people with ideas to share them. First and foremost, contact me! I’m collecting ideas through my email, firstname.lastname@example.org and you can call me at 1-800-709-0578. You can also share them on the web at our Reform 2.0 website – reform2.mn.There you can also see ideas that other Minnesotans have shared, as well as comment on them. Someone else might have an idea that you can improve and expand on, the website will allow you to add your input.
What sort of ideas are we looking for? If you’ve had an experience with government that had you jumping through needless hoops, we want to hear about it. If you’re a business owner whose work is slowed by waiting on different parts of government to perform the same task, let us know. If you’ve use technology to streamline your operations, share it with us, it could be something government can utilize. Maybe it’s something we haven’t even thought of. We want to hear it!
As legislators, we follow the dollars and cents. We rely on you – the consumers of government – who interact with the programs we create to tell us how they’re doing and how they can do better. Ultimately, we’re also all the ones who pay the bill for funding government, so whatever we can do to control costs, even if it seems small. One person’s small idea, combined with someone else’s expertise and another’s experience can turn into something big. The more we hear from you, the more chance ideas can take off.
Email me, call me, visit reform2.mn or even stop me on the sidewalk to talk. Let’s start having the discussion about how to make government more efficient with our dollars.
