Legislative Update-Orange Line Funding

Friday, November 30, 2018

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Our area received some great news this week as the Federal Transit Administration announced it will be funding its portion of the METROOrange Line Bus Rapid Transit. This announcement means that the Orange Line project – a 17-mile Bus Rapid Transit line that will run from Minneapolis to Burnsville along I-35W – now has full funding and can begin finalizing construction.

The Orange Line will provide consistent, all-day bus transit along the route, seven days per week. The project is upgrading and replacing the existing route with improved service and amenities, including street and highway improvements, upgraded stations, and improved bus routes. It also includes a transit-only ramp between I-35W and downtown Minneapolis.

The Orange Line will be hugely beneficial to residents of the south metro, as it will provide faster bus transit and commutes, reduce congestion, and promote further economic growth in our area. I was proud to join my Republican colleagues in supporting the Orange Line in the legislature, and I am thrilled we received the necessary federal funding to finish out the project.

Finally, thank you for the opportunity to represent our communities in the legislature these last four years. It has been a tremendous honor. Please look for a final legislative update from me in the next few weeks. I will continue to be your state representative until January 8, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any legislative questions or concerns. I can be reached via phone at 651-296-5387 or via email at rep.roz.peterson@house.mn.

Sincerely,
