Wednesday, October 10, 2018

Ramsey, MINN.– Representative Abigail Whelan, R-Ramsey, issued the following statement regarding recent news that Ramsey Elementary is receiving $104,431 and Anoka-Hennepin Public Schools Technical Education Program is receiving $16,092 in school safety grant funding. Last session, the Legislature approved and Governor Dayton signed into law $25 million in capital investment funds that schools could apply for to make physical safety improvements. The Minnesota Department of Education formally announced the grant allocations in a news release.

“The safety of our students and schools was a primary focus last session, and I was proud to support and vote for a comprehensive legislative package to help our schools make safety improvements and address student mental health,” said Rep. Whelan. “I want to wish a sincere congratulations to the Anoka-Hennepin School District for securing these grants!

"While I am not seeking re-election, I trust my colleagues in St. Paul will continue the work we started, seeking to ensure all students and staff are safe in our public schools."

Rep. Whelan represents the cities of Anoka and Ramsey.
