RELEASE: Rep. Anderson’s Statement on School Safety Grants

Tuesday, October 2, 2018

ST. PAUL, MN – Rep. Sarah Anderson (R-Plymouth) issued the following statement regarding news today that Robbinsdale and Osseo School Districts will each receive school safety state grant funding. In total, Osseo Schools will receive over half a million dollars. Robbinsdale Schools will receive $182,730 to use for security and violence prevention improvements.

Last session, the Legislature approved and the Governor signed into law $25 million in capital investment funds that schools could apply for to make physical safety improvements. The funds may be used to predesign, design, construct, furnish and equip school facilities, including renovating and expanding existing buildings.

It is great to see our schools taking advantage of these grants and being awarded valuable dollars to help ensure the safety of our students,” said Rep. Anderson. “I am proud to have advocated for these grants and helped pass them in the Legislature. School safety remains a high priority for me, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to make further investments and reforms to help keep our kids safe.

The Legislature approved an additional $25 million in school safety grants as part of the supplemental budget bill, but the funds were vetoed by Governor Dayton.
