COHASSET, MN – Rep. Sandy Layman, R-Cohasset, announces the Elder Circle of Grand Rapids will receive state grant funding to assist in its efforts to support people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and those who care for them.
The Minnesota Board on Aging awarded $78,712 to Elder Circle. The funds are from a $750,000 appropriation by the Minnesota Legislature to support grants for organizations such as Elder Circle throughout the state. The grant goals include increasing access to memory screenings and training, heightening cultural responsiveness and working with health care providers to improve services.
“It’s encouraging to see organizations like Elder Circle receive these funds to help combat the growing issues of Alzheimer’s and dementia,” said Layman. “I’ve long supported Elder Circle, and know the great work they do in caring for our aging population in our area. I look forward to this grant being used to further increase the level of care for those in need.”
The Minnesota Department of Human Services indicates the Elder Circle grant will help to “offer dementia education through different technologies in rural Itasca and St. Louis counties, to promote memory screening and to support people living with dementia and those providing care through memory clubs, the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program and support groups.”
