Legislative Update from Rep. Linda Runbeck

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you and your family have been able to enjoy the weather so far this summer. The heat has certainly been difficult to deal with at times, but it beats sub-zero temps and snow!

Last month we received news from the Minnesota Department of Commerce that for the second straight year, health insurance premiums on the individual market are projected to decrease. In total, all five of the carriers on the individual market are projected to decrease premiums for 2019, with average preliminary rates dropping between 3% and 12.4%. The individual market serves Minnesotans who buy health insurance on their own, not through an employer or the government.

This news is proof that reforms championed by House Republicans over the last two years are working. I look forward to continuing this work next session.

Also, a reminder to please be sure to drive safely this summer. There have been 181 traffic fatalities reported by MNDOT so far this year in Minnesota. It is my hope that there will be fewer than 2017's total of 358 traffic fatalities. MNDOT's Towards Zero Deaths program has a goal of fewer than 300 fatalities on our roads by 2020. For more information on the program and ways you can help reduce traffic fatalities, visit http://www.minnesotatzd.org/.

Finally, due to rules from the state’s Campaign Finance Board, this will be my last email update until November. Nevertheless, I urge you to continue to contact me if you have any questions or concerns related to state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-2907 or via email at rep.linda.runbeck@house.mn.

Thank you and have a great weekend,

Linda
