RELEASE: Funding for Mental Health Crisis Center in Savage Signed into Law

Wednesday, May 30, 2018

St. Paul – On Wednesday, Governor Dayton signed into law funding for a mental health crisis center in Savage. State Representative Drew Christensen, R-Savage authored the bill to issue bonds of up to $1.9 million to match local contributions to build the mental health crisis center.

"We are facing a mental health crisis across our country and right here in our community. Facilities like the one to be built in Savage are necessary so those suffering can be treated closer to their families," said Rep. Christensen. "I am proud to have partnered with our local officials to be able to bring this critically needed crisis center to Savage."

The Savage facility will house sixteen beds for intensive residential and treatment services. The new facility will provide stabilization and treatment for persons with a primary or secondary mental health diagnosis in lieu of inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. The facility will be a regional resource for patients for stays up to 90 days in length.
