Reps. Fabian & Kiel Applaud Signing of Bonding Bill with Local Projects

St. Paul, MN— On Wednesday, Governor Dayton signed an infrastructure-heavy, geographically balanced capital investment package featuring $825 million in general obligation bonding to fund construction projects throughout the state. Much of the funding is dedicated to brick-and-mortar projects, such as roads and bridges, water infrastructure and statewide asset preservation. Additionally, funding to make safety improvements in Minnesota schools and money to build three new veterans homes in Greater Minnesota were also in the bill package.

What’s more, the bill also includes several local projects championed by Rep. Deb Kiel, R-Crookston, and Rep. Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, including funding for the North Country Food Bank which serves counties throughout Northwest Minnesota, the University of Minnesota-Crookston, flood mitigation in Thief River Falls, and clean water projects for communities like Climax who are updating their clean water systems.

“Today, our communities should celebrate the bonding bill and the funding for critical local projects in our area,” said Rep. Kiel. “In particular, the $3 million for the North Country Food Bank is something I have been working toward for several years. They do a great job reaching folks in need, serving 21 counties throughout Northwest and West Central Minnesota. The University of Minnesota-Crookston is also such an important asset to our community and state, and I am pleased we funded needed campus upgrades.”

“Roads and bridges, asset preservation and water projects like flood mitigation in Thief River Falls—that’s what House Republicans focused on when crafting a reasonably-sized, infrastructure heavy bonding bill to meet the needs of Minnesotans,” said Rep. Fabian. “I am pleased the governor signed the bonding bill which will greatly benefit folks in Northwest Minnesota and across the state.”
