Greetings from the Capitol,

As the people in the Fargo and Moorhead areas brace for flooding, I ask that you would remember them in your thoughts and prayers. My husband spent Monday helping fill sandbags and the volunteer spirit there is amazing. They are doing the best they can, but the worst still lies ahead.

Here’s a quick recap of just a few of the activities in St. Paul.

In this issue:
1. Last Chance For The 2009 Legislative Survey
2. House Majority Unveils Tax Increases
3. Fun Facts on the State Budget
4. Join Me At The Lions Pancake Breakfast

1. Last Chance For The 2009 Legislative Survey
If you haven’t yet taken the survey I encourage you to do so right now! It only takes a few minutes, and you can go directly to my survey by using this address: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/survey/49A.asp

I’ll begin tabulating the results on Monday, and will share them with you as soon as they are ready.

2. House Majority Unveils Tax Increases
Last week the House Majority unveiled their tax increases. They are proposing new tax increases of $4.4 billion on you. They are leaving nothing off the table when it comes to tax increases. They’ve said they’d be willing to tax people who make less than $65,000. They may tax internet music downloads. They’re even looking at taxing clothing and food products.

I am opposed to these and all tax increases. Our legislature needs to fund the priorities of our state. We must not take more money than is necessary out of the pockets of our family.

When it comes to taking more money out of your pocket it seems they’ll stop at nothing. And speaking of raising taxes, let’s look at some more fun facts on the state budget.

3. Fun Facts on the State Budget
There are some fun facts on the state budget that I was not aware of. You may not be aware of them either. I think you’ll find them interesting. Please share these with your friends and neighbors as well!

Fact: A 10% income tax “surcharge” on ALL MINNESOTANS that some DFLers talk about would take $1.7 billion out of Minnesotans’ pockets to finance more government spending.

Fact: 92% of small businesses in Minnesota pay personal income taxes, meaning that any income tax increase will directly hurt job creators.

Just for fun take a look at this video clip of Daniel Hannan tell the British Prime Minister how it is when it comes to government spending. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lW6Y4tBXs

4. Join Me At The Lions Pancake Breakfast
On Sunday April 5th the Ham Lake Lions Club will be having their annual pancake breakfast. This annual tradition is their way of saying thank you to the community. The breakfast is free and runs from 8:30am – 12:30pm. It will be at McKinley Elementary School, 1740 Constance Blvd NE. I hope to see you there!

As always, I would encourage you to contact me on any legislative issue or questions you may have. You can reach me via email at rep.peggy.scott@house.mn or by phone at (651) 296-4231.

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve you.
