Legislative Update from Rep. Anna Wills

Friday, December 15, 2017

Friends,

Last week our state's November forecast was released showing a projected $188 million deficit due to lower-than-expected revenues based on assumptions about federal legislation and U.S. GDP and wage growth.

This forecast also shows Minnesota's economy is strong with the lowest unemployment rate in years and wages rising for workers. I expect the budget numbers to improve after the February forecast as our nation's economy continues to grow. My focus here at the Capitol will continue to be increasing paychecks by growing good-paying jobs and reducing taxes for Minnesota families.

Local Chamber Holiday Luncheons

Over this past week, I attended the Holiday Luncheons hosted by the Dakota County Regional Chamber and the Apple Valley Chamber. As a member of these local chambers, I always enjoy attending these events to connect with local business representatives and hear updates on what's happening in our community. Both events featured choirs from District 196 high schools performing Christmas carols. We truly have amazing talent in our young people!

Change of Command

On Saturday, December 9th, I was honored to attend the Change of Command for the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division from Maj. Gen. Jon Jensen to Brig. Gen. Benjamin Corell.

Dakota County Fire Training

Last week, on Thursday, December 7th, I was invited to a demonstration by Dakota County Fire and Flint Hills to see how fire personnel is trained to put out a car fire with their unique car fire simulator. These are incredibly important resources for our community and I was grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the demonstration.

Interim Appointments

If you would like to meet with me to ask any questions or discuss a particular issue, my meetings will be held in-district during these months before next year’s session. Simply use the same contact information for my office below, and we will find a time and place to meet in our community, instead of traveling all the way to Saint Paul!
