ST. PAUL, Minn. – Representative Jenifer Loon, R-Eden Prairie, is reminding Minnesotans that Sunday sales goes into effect this weekend, and July 2nd will be the first time Minnesotans will be able to legally purchase alcohol on Sundays at their local liquor stores. Rep. Loon chief authored the legislation to repeal the ban on Sunday sales that had been in place since statehood.
“On July 2nd, Minnesotans will have the opportunity to purchase alcohol at participating local stores, and local businesses will now have the freedom to be open any day of the week they choose to best meet the needs of their customers,” said Rep. Loon. “I am excited that after four years of championing Sunday sales legislation and a strong grassroots effort, it’s finally a reality in the state of Minnesota.”
The legislation signed into law earlier this year allows liquor stores to be open between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sundays. It will take effect on July 1, 2017.
