Dear Neighbors,
I hope summer is off to a great start, and that our school age families are enjoying their break. Here are a couple of updates regarding what is going on in our community.
Ben Kopp Bridge Dedication Ceremony
The dedication ceremony for the Benjamin S. Kopp Memorial Bridge will be August 2nd.
As I have mentioned before, my bill renaming the bridge over Hwy 52 in Coates in honor of Corporal Benjamin S. Kopp, was signed by Governor Dayton. Corporal Kopp was killed in 2009 while serving our country in Afghanistan, and many are alive today because of his sacrifice and choice to be an organ donor. I am truly humbled to have been a small part of honoring Ben’s memory.
For additional information regarding the dedication ceremony, here is a link to the Rosemount Town Pages article regarding Ben’s legacy and the ceremony: http://www.rosemounttownpages.com/news/region/4283852-bridge-honor-fallen-soldier-ben-kopp
Please join us at the dedication ceremony!
Governor’s Veto of Legislature Funding
As some of you may have heard, shortly after the conclusion of session Governor Dayton took the unprecedented step to defund the Legislature. We believe this attempt to silence both the House and Senate for the next four years is unconstitutional, and after such a productive session, his behavior is extremely disappointing.
As a result, the Legislature has sought outside counsel in an effort to defend the people’s voice and representation at the Capitol. Attorneys representing both sides have filed their briefs to the court, and opening arguments for the court proceedings are scheduled for this coming Monday. Court proceedings will be taped and should be made available through media outlets after the proceedings have concluded. Access to court document filings can be found here: http://www.mncourts.gov/Media/62-CV-17-3601.aspx
We hope this issue will be resolved in short order.
Segments of Shannon Parkway Closed
Recently, Shannon Parkway from 150th Street West to the 151st Street/December Trail intersection has been closed for construction. This closure will last until July 5th at 7:00 PM.
