Legislative Update from Rep. Anna Wills

Friday, February 17, 2017

Dear Friends,

This last week proved to be very busy for House committees. Here is a brief overview of some additional bills I have introduced, and some other items from our community.

My Bills

Here are a couple of pieces of legislation that I have introduced at the legislature, in addition to the bills I have mention in my last couple of updates.

HF209 & HF515

These bills modify the terms of "automatic renewal" clauses, requiring sellers of goods and services to make it clear to the consumer that the original year-long (or more) contract they are agreeing to will automatically renew if action is not taken by a certain date. They also require sellers to make clear what action must be taken to cancel the renewal.

HF494

This bill creates a new certification available to special education teachers who meet certain requirements outlined by the Board of Teaching. This new license, the academic and behavioral strategist license, would indicate that a teacher is authorized to evaluate and customize teaching strategies for students in kindergarten through 21 years of age who have mild to moderate needs.

HF852

A bonding request to appropriate $1 million in funds to design and carry out railroad crossing improvements to create a quiet zone at the crossing on Bonaire Path in Rosemount.

Secretary of State Open Appointments

The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State has announced 552 vacancies for various state boards, councils and committees that are now accepting applications.

I encourage members of our community to look over the vacancies and see what opportunities there are for public service! Rosemount Commission Seat Openings

As some of you may know, next Friday is the final day to apply for seats on the commissions that help advise the Rosemount City Council. There are openings to be filled on the Parks and Recreation, Planning, and Utilities Commissions, in addition to the Port Authority that helps direct the city’s economic development agenda. There are also openings on the Environmental/Sustainability Task Force.
