ST. PAUL – State Rep. Sondra Erickson has announced 2007 total sales and proceeds from Minnesota State Lottery for District 16A. Gross sales last year in the region were more than $3.1 million, and the 30 businesses in the district that sell lottery tickets earned more than $185,000 in commissions and incentives.

Of the sales, nearly $1.9 billion were from scratch-off tickets, while online games accounted for $1.2 million.

Lottery sales in 16A resulted in contributions of more than $215,000 to the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund and almost $450,000 to the General Fund. These amounts include unclaimed prize money. The Game and Fish Fund and Natural Resources Fund each received about $83,000, while $1.4 million in prizes was redeemed.

“Sales were down a bit from 2006, but the lottery still provided sizeable funding for the environment and natural resources,” Erickson said. “The people of Benton, Mille Lacs, Morrison and Sherburne counties benefited from this financial support.”

Statewide, sales in fiscal year 2007 totaled $423 million, which produced $112.4 million for state programs. The Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund received $30 million in net proceeds; $63 million was transferred to the General Fund as net proceeds, in-lieu-of-sales tax, unclaimed prizes and problem gambling contributions; and the Game and Fish Fund and Natural Resources Fund each received $9.9 million from the sales tax.
