Legislative Update (April 8, 2016)

Friday, April 8, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

It’s certainly not the spring weather we were hoping for, but the warm temps are just around the corner. While you’re avoiding the snow, here’s a short update from this week in St. Paul.

Bill In Committee

You may remember me writing about my bill regarding spousal maintenance reform to make alimony fairer in our state. The bill, HF1333, is working its way through the committee process. It’s a bipartisan bill, and I hope to see it on the House floor soon. WCCO did a good job of summarizing the bill in a story from last week. If you’re interested in checking it out, click here.

Around Town

There’s a number of great events coming up in our area. Next week is the Coon Rapids Arts Commission “Dessert and Coffee Concert Series”. This a fun event with enjoyment and tasty food. Here is a link for more details.

The week after is the Coon Rapids 2016 Ice Fantasy skating show at the Coon Rapids Ice Center. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. More information is available here.

April 30 brings a fun charity event to our area in the Ladies Day Out benefit for MS. This is an all-day affair with workshops, door prizes, and a silent auction. Please click here to find out more.

St. Paul Visits

The first few weeks of session have been perfect for meeting and talking with constituents and other interested groups at the Capitol. I recently met with residents of our district from the Anoka Regional Treatment Center. These folks are dedicated to the people they serve in a difficult environment. I also spoke with nursing students, credit union representatives, and a number of other groups this week. If you’re planning a trip to St. Paul, please call or email to schedule a time to meet; I’d love to chat!

Enjoy your weekend,

Peggy
