RELEASE: State Rep. Lyndon Carlson Appointed to Legislative Budget Office Oversight Commission

Thursday, July 12, 2018

ST. PAUL, MN - State Representative Lyndon Carlson (DFL – Crystal, New Hope, Plymouth) has been appointed to the Legislative Budget Office Oversight Commission (LBOOC) by House Speaker Kurt Daudt and Minority Leader Melissa Hortman.

The Legislative Budget Office Oversight Commission was established in 2018 to review the work of the Legislative Budget Office (LBO) and make recommendations regarding the office's ability to fulfill its duties. The Oversight Commission is charged with appointing the LBO director and is also responsible for establishing the director's duties. The director of the LBO serves as the executive secretary of the Commission.

The LBO is a nonpartisan office of the Minnesota Legislature. It was created to provide the House of Representatives and the Senate with accurate, and timely information on the fiscal impact of proposed legislation (Minnesota Statutes 3.8853). The LBO was established in 2017 and is to be operational by September 19, 2019. The office will be responsible for preparing fiscal notes and local impact notes that analyze the cost impacts of proposed legislation.

"The work of this commission is an opportunity to work together to find ways for legislative decision-making to be even better informed and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of legislators as we work to correctly assess all of the fiscal impacts that legislation has on Minnesotans and our communities, for the benefit of all of us," said Rep. Carlson.

The LBOOC consists of four members of the Minnesota Senate and four members of the Minnesota House of Representatives, appointed by the Speaker and by the Minority Leader.

Rep. Carlson encourages constituents to contact him with any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas on any legislative topic. Rep. Carlson can be reached by phone at 651-296-4255 or by email at rep.lyndon.carlson@house.mn.
