Release: Rep. Poppe and Department of Ag Remind Farmers about Disaster Assistance

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MN—In light of recent natural disasters, including significant flood damage, Rep. Jeanne Poppe (DFL-Austin) and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture want to remind farmers there is state level funding available to help.

“When natural disasters strike our neighbors we come together to help them,” remarked Rep. Poppe. “This is true no matter what part of the state is impacted. Disaster has hit area farmers who have experienced crop damage and threatened their livelihoods. That’s why Minnesota has programs to help with loans and other assistance. I encourage all farmers who could use a helping hand during this time of hardship to check into the Disaster Recovery Loan Program.”

The Disaster Recovery Loan Program operates under the Rural Finance Authority through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. The program provides low interest loans covering farmers for expenses not covered by insurance. The funds can be used to help clean up, repair, or replace farm structures and septic and water systems, as well as replace seed, other crop inputs, feed, and livestock, when damaged by high winds, hail, tornado, floods or excessive rainfall.

For more information on the Disaster Recovery Loan Program, please call (651) 201-6004, visit http://www.mda.state.mn.us/grants/disaster/disasterloan.aspx, or email Ryan.Roles@state.mn.us.

Rep. Jeanne Poppe is the DFL Lead on the House Agriculture Finance Committee. She can be reached at rep.jeanne.poppe@house.mn or at 651-296-4193.
