I hope summer is treating you well! I want to update you on a few local events and invite you to an event I’m hosting tomorrow night.
Destigmatizing Mental Illness Event This Wednesday!
Please join me for a presentation from Kate Eifrig on destigmatizing mental illness. This event will create a conversation aimed to enlighten and empower the audience with specific actions we can take to "Create a Caring Community.”

Migrant Children
I recently joined many of my colleagues in releasing the following statement: “The actions of President Trump, along with his subordinates like Attorney General Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Neilsen, go against what we value as Minnesotans and Americans. This practice of separating family members should have never started in the first place, and no executive order will change that. No parent, regardless of immigration status, should experience the horror of having a child ripped away from them. Likewise, no child should be forced into such an uncertain, fearful predicament where their health, development, and well-being are put in jeopardy.”
Last week I had the opportunity to speak to a large group of Minnesotans who were gathered in Duluth regarding this policy and its effects. As the grandchild of a Native woman who experienced the trauma of being sent to an Indian boarding school, I am particularly concerned about how these current actions will affect families for generations into the future.
Children should never be the poker chips in anyone’s political game. We must do all that we can to reunite these children with their families as soon as possible. Taking children is not acceptable and we must also do what we can to provide support so that the negative impacts of this trauma are addressed.
New Laws Taking Effect July 1
The new laws going into effect on July 1st this year include licensing for athletic trainers, changes to the Taconite Economic Development Fund, adjustments to the legislative budget office, and personal claims against the state. You can read more about the new laws here.
Fridays with Firefighters
The Roseville Fire Department hosts open houses on Fridays during the summer. Families are encouraged to attend to try on fire gear, see the fire trucks, meet our wonderful firefighters and even spray the fire hose! All are welcome.

Concert at Vadnais Square
Celebrate summer at the free live outdoor concert and street dance featuring “Bad Girlfriends”, a six-musician band, performing a high-energy mix of classic and current rock, county and pop. Concert hosts are F & M Bank, Mad Jacks and Vadnais Square.

When: Tuesday, Jul 17th from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
Where: Vadnais Square at County Road E and City Center Drive (935 East County Road E)
Discover Your Parks this Summer
Roseville hosts weekly events at different parks across the city on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. They’re an opportunity to meet up with neighbors and friends for some playtime in the park, plus take an opportunity to talk with Parks & Recreation Commissioners and staff about our parks.
These events are completely free and include themed activities, games and crafts, ice cream, lemonade, and popcorn, a bouncy castle, and a Puppet Wagon performance! For a list of parks and dates, check out Discover Your Parks.
