RELEASE: Iron Range DFL lawmakers applaud PUC’s approval of Line 3

Thursday, June 28, 2018

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission unanimously voted to approve the certificate of need for Enbridge Energy’s proposed Line 3 replacement in northern Minnesota.

Rep. Rob Ecklund (DFL – International Falls) and Rep. Julie Sandstede (DFL – Hibbing) released the following joint statement:

"We thank the PUC for their meticulous consideration of this proposal and for giving the replacement of Line 3 the green light. This approval is outstanding news for our region. In addition to the safe, economically sound delivery of energy resources the new line will provide, we’re excited at the prospect of many good-paying, quality job opportunities the project will deliver.

“Despite numerous attempts from others to needlessly circumvent the review process, we’ve supported this project from the very beginning and continue to as it moves forward. We have an expectation for a mutually agreed-upon route and will work to ensure that those impacted by the location will have a voice at the table. We remain committed to building an economy that works for everybody, and opportunities like this represent a significant portion of that goal.”
