STATEMENT: Rep. Fue Lee’s Statement on Last Night’s Shooting

Thursday, June 28, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MN – Last night, two fatal shootings occurred in Minneapolis. One of those shootings occurred in North Minneapolis near where Thurman Blevins was killed by Minneapolis Police Officers just last week.

Rep. Fue Lee (DFL), who represents the area of North Minneapolis where the murder occurred, released the following statement:

“It’s heartbreaking that we had another fatal shooting in North Minneapolis last night. Far too many people in our community are being gunned down in such senseless ways. It’s clear that when a community suffers from gun violence the children do worse in school, people live less healthy lives, and a deeply destructive cycle of violence ensues that harms all in the community. This cycle of violence and the trauma it inflicts on our community is unacceptable and will not be tolerated any longer.

“While we grieve yet another loss, we must come together and demand positive action not just for those in our community who have lost so much, but for all Minnesotans. We saw thousands of people come to the Capitol this past year demanding meaningful steps to stop gun violence, yet nothing was done. Minnesotans and especially the people of our community deserve so much more than inaction as we face such devastating violence.”

Rep. Lee encourages constituents to contact him with any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas on any legislative topic. Rep. Lee can be reached by phone at 651-296-4262 or by email at rep.fue.lee@house.mn.
