Statement from Rep. Bernardy on Passage of Transportation Portion of Budget Omnibus Bill

Sunday, May 20, 2018

ST. PAUL, MN – In the early hours on the last day of the 2018 legislative session, House Republicans passed their supplemental transportation budget bill as part of a larger omnibus bill. Notably, the bill contains no dedicated, sustainable transportation infrastructure funding for the future, and has zero funding for any rural or metro transit, including Metro Mobility. The Republican Majority also fails to incorporate the ‘hands free’ cell phone provision in the bill.

Rep. Connie Bernardy, DFL-Lead of the House Transportation Committee (New Brighton), released the following statement:

“Minnesotans deserve a fully-functioning, multi-modal, and safe transportation system that benefits all users. This ought to include roads, bridges, and transit. The Republican transportation bill fails to deliver long-term funding and lifesaving public safety measures our state needs now and in the future. Minnesotans expect and deserve better than this.

“This inadequate bill leaves behind our senior citizens, students, working families and most vulnerable Minnesotans who rely on transit across the state.”
