Legislative Update - February 23, 2018

Friday, February 23, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

The 2018 session is underway and we have a lot to accomplish in a few short months.

I’m committed to exploring options to combat elder abuse in our communities, as well as securing decent transportation funding for improvements to the roads and bridges we rely on to go to work, school, and to ferry the kids from place to place.

Update on Freeway Landfill

The MPCA is currently in the first phase of its investigation. The accompanying dump site is older than the landfill and MPCA will be gathering information on both its contents and what cleanup approach is best.

This is a long term project and, on the current timeline, public input will be sought in Spring 2019. Once the project begins, it’s important to complete it without interruption, so I’ll be advocating for it to be fully funded from the start. I applaud Gov. Dayton for including it in his 2018 bonding bill.

Town Hall Meeting Recap

Last Saturday, we had more than 50 people attend our town hall meeting. Thank you to all in attendance and thank you to the panel of lobbyists who took time out of their day to educate attendees on not only the work they do, but the process of moving a bill through committees and conference committees. It was an interesting morning and we heard great feedback!

Vikings Facility Tour

I joined a group of legislators in taking a tour of the Vikings’ new practice facility in Eagan. It’s scheduled to open in early March and it sounds like they’re expecting to host plenty of public activities on the grounds as well. Here’s the youth field that is nearing completion:
