Minnesota House passes bill repealing ban on Sunday liquor sales

Saint Paul, Minn. — Following passage of a bill by the Minnesota House of Representatives that would repeal the ban on Sunday liquor sales, Rep. Diane Loeffler, DFL – Minneapolis, released the following statement:

“I am pleased the House voted to repeal the ban on Sunday liquor sales in Minnesota. This issue is important to many Minnesotans, as evidenced by the consistent debate over it at the Capitol from session to session.

As a co-author, public input in support of this reflects a strong desire for purchasing flexibility. The Sunday sales allowed now for growlers in my district’s many taprooms has proven the popularity of full weekend access and I have not heard of any complaints it has generated.

While it will be legal to sell liquor on Sunday, the hours are limited; it can be sold from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additionally, carriers cannot make deliveries on Sundays and off-sale retailers may not accept them. I was happy to cast my vote to take another step forward in resolving this longstanding issue.”
