St. Paul, MN State Representative Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park/Coon Rapids) welcomed the House bonding bill that was released on Tuesday, and said she is pleased that there is such significant support in the Legislature for the Northstar Corridor.
"The House Capital Investment Committee recommended $50 million for the Northstar Corridor, which is very close to full funding," said Hortman. "I plan to continue to work with Representatives and Senators on both sides of the aisle, as well as the Governor, and I am confident that the final bill will include the full $60 million in funding."
Last session, the Northstar Corridor received $37.5 million in bonding money, which secured the federal funds that were available. The $60 million that was requested in this year's bonding bill is viewed as critical for the successful continuation of this project.
"The Northstar Corridor commuter rail is a key to reducing the congestion along Highway 10," said Hortman. "I believe that the Senate and the Governor recognize the need for this project and I'm hopeful the extra $10 million will be secured in Conference Committee."
Hortman was also pleased that the Anoka-Ramsey Community College was designated for $772,000 in funding for basic repairs and maintenance.
"Any investment in education offers a statewide benefit, not just for my district," said Hortman.
