News from Representative Wills 09-25-2015

Friday, September 25, 2015

Dear Friends,

I had a wonderful time helping out at last week's BOOYA fundraiser at Apple Valley Fire Station #1. It was great to see so many friends and neighbors from our area out in support of our firefighters. The event was a huge success with a great turnout and delicious booya as an added bonus.

Voter Registration Day

Voter Registration Day was September 22nd. Registering to vote is easier than ever. Find more information on the Secretary of State website by clicking here where you can download the registration form, register online, and more.

Cedar Transitway Meeting

On Wednesday, September 23rd, Senator Greg Clausen and I met with Dakota County Transit Manager Kristine and Dakota County Transportation Director Mark Krebsbach to discuss concerns we have heard from constituents regarding proposed improvements to the Hwy 77/127th/Palomino interchange.

We discussed possible scenarios for future changes to improve the transit and traffic conditions along that corridor and were assured that the proposed plan to close the ramps is just one of many ideas that are going to be studied over the next few years. Dakota County Regional Rail Authority is working with MnDOT and the city of Apple Valley to find the best possible solution for future improvements. They will be having open houses and seeking resident feedback throughout the process. I will keep you informed as those get scheduled.

Guild Incorporated Informational Meeting

On Thursday, September 24th, I attended an informational meeting hosted by Guild Incorporated to learn more about their services. Started in the early 1970's, Guild's mission is "we exist to help individuals with mental illness lead quality lives" and they serve over 2,000 clients throughout the Twin Cities. I was impressed with their focus on supporting their clients so they can live as independently as possible and be contributing members of society. This approach is much more cost-effective than putting people into psychiatric hospitals and leads to a much higher quality of life. If you or a loved one is looking for services, or you're interested in volunteering with this great organization, you can learn more by visiting their website.

Rosemount Area Arts Council

On Sunday, September 27th, at 2pm at the Rosemount Public Library, I will be joining the Rosemount Area Arts Council for the dedication of "Journey," the One Tile One Rosemount mosaic painting. This painting is made up of 9216 tiles signed by individuals in the Rosemount area, and is truly a community piece of art. Also RSVP'd are Senator Amy Klobuchar, Rosemount Mayor Bill Droste, and others. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there, and seeing the completed project.

The Arts Council is one of many groups that receives funding for the Legacy Amendment, funds dedicated by voters constitutionally back in 2008 to boost arts and water conservation. To learn more about the One Tile project, see the story in the Sun Thisweek by clicking here.

You are invited to attend! Visit the Facebook event for more details.
