St. Paul, Minnesota — State Representatives Laurie Halverson (DFL – Eagan) and Joe Atkins (DFL – Inver Grove Heights) will be holding a joint town hall meeting on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 6:00-7:00 pm in the City Council chambers at the Eagan Municipal Center (3830 Pilot Knob Rd. Eagan, MN 55122).

Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Jim Schowalter will deliver a brief presentation on the state budget, before Reps. Halverson and Atkins open up the meeting for questions and a moderated discussion.

Minnesota is facing a $1.1 billion budget deficit and still owes its K-12 schools another $1.1 billion.

“Minnesota is facing a number of challenges going forward and your input is essential as we work to craft a balanced budget that invests in our future and economic growth,” said Rep. Halverson. “I encourage constituents to attend and share their thoughts and ideas on how we keep Minnesota a great place to work, live, and raise a family.”

“Hearing from our constituents is important to us,” said Rep. Atkins. “Our budget needs to set our state on a long-term path to success and reflect the priorities of Minnesotans. Hearing from Minnesotans is absolutely essential to getting the job done.”
