RELEASE: Rep. Spencer Igo Sends Letter to Gov. Walz Urging Increased Spectator Capacity at MSHSL State Tournaments

Wednesday, March 10, 2021

St. Paul, MN- State Representative Spencer Igo, R-Grand Rapids, and a group of lawmakers sent a letter to Gov. Walz on Wednesday urging the Governor to expand spectator capacity at upcoming Minnesota State High School League tournaments.

“It is encouraging to read media reports that Gov. Walz is likely to allow a limited number of fans at Target Field for Twins games next month,” said Rep. Igo. “With that news and indications that other states around the nation are allowing fans to return to stadiums, it makes sense for Minnesota to pursue this. For many student athletes, qualifying for the state tournament is a crowning achievement and they should not be forced to pick and choose which family members can attend games.

"Case counts are dropping, vaccinations are rising, and life is starting to return to normal. Making this small adjustment will make a big difference for students and families across the state and is a step in the right direction.”

Joining Rep. Igo on the letter was Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, and 26 other members of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

A copy of the letter can be found here.
