Legislative Update - July 28, 2021

Wednesday, July 28, 2021

Dear neighbors,

I hope you and your loved ones are staying cool! I wanted to provide a quick update from the Capitol and remind you that Rep. Frank Hornstein, Sen. Scott Dibble, and I are hosting a town hall tonight. If you’d like to join us, we’re meeting at the Lake Harriet Bandshell from 7 to 8:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Minnesota Adopts Clean Car Standards

On Monday, Minnesota officially became the 15th state to adopt clean car standards – and the first one in the Midwest. The new rules require automobile manufacturers to produce more low-emission and zero-emission vehicles, including electric cars. Minnesotans who’d like to drive these types of cars will see more options when the standards take effect in 2024.

Minnesotans who choose cars with better fuel economy will save money on gas and maintenance, and everyone will benefit from having cleaner cars on the road, even if they don’t drive one. Clean car standards will help our state lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce air pollution, and create jobs. It’s an important step forward, and I’m glad I could join Governor Walz and other legislators to celebrate it!

Gov. Walz Signs ECO Act

The Energy Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act, a bipartisan bill Governor Walz signed yesterday, will make Minnesota one of the top energy efficiency states in the nation! It updates and improves the state’s Conservation Improvement Program, which helps households and businesses use electricity and natural gas more efficiently and save money. This legislation is good for our climate, for jobs, and for ratepayers, and I’m proud to have played a part in it.
