Legislative Update- August 13, 2019

Tuesday, August 13, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

I hope this finds you well! This is a friendly reminder to join me for a community conversation this Saturday at Robert Trail Library at 10:00 a.m. in Rosemount. There is no formal agenda, so please feel free to stop by to share any ideas or questions. All are welcome to attend.

As summer is winding down, I’m making the most of it with neighbors and community members.

Transportation Town Hall

A big thank you to all who attended the transportation town hall meeting in Rosemount last week. We had an excellent turnout and a wide variety of state, city, and local elected officials, including the House Transportation Chair and Vice-Chair Frank Hornstein and Brad Tabke, respectively. Our discussion included an overview from the American Association of Civil Engineers, which ranked Minnesota’s roads and bridges at a D+. That grade was never acceptable for my kids while they were in school and we shouldn’t let it slide in Minnesota.
County Commissioner and former state representative Joe Atkins, Met Council Member and former legislator Phil Sterner, and Mayor Bill Droste all shared support and ideas for sustainable solutions for long-term transportation funding. These needs aren’t just at the state level- but also in our own community. The Rosemount Roundabout, Park and Rides, and other local projects aren’t possible without making the investments our community needs and deserves.

Education Town Hall Meeting- Save the Date!

On Sunday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m., I’ll be hosting a town hall meeting with the focus on education. House Education Finance Chair Jim Davnie, Education Policy Chair Cheryl Youakim, and ISD #196 Superintendent Mary Kreger will be there to deliver education updates and take questions. I hope you’ll be able to join us!
