Gov. Walz Holds Bill Signing for Lakeville Metro Mobility

ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Walz today held a ceremonial signing for Rep. Alice Mann's legislation to bring Metro Mobility to Lakeville. Metro Mobility will expand an affordable door-to-door public transportation service for riders who are unable to use regular fixed-route buses due to a disability or health condition. This is the first bill Rep. Mann chief-authored this session.

Extending Metro Mobility’s door-to-door public transportation services to Lakeville will help the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in need get to the doctor, go to the grocery store, and achieve the life-changing ability to live independently,” said Rep. Alice Mann (DFL – Lakeville).

Metro Mobility operates 360 days a year and provided nearly 2.5 million rides in 2018, about a third of which were for people who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The service area includes Minneapolis, St. Paul, and nearly 90 adjoining suburbs. Eligible riders may apply here.

The bill, which appropriates nearly $2 million from the General Fund to expand Metro Mobility services to Lakeville, was adopted in the omnibus transportation bill. Language of the bill is available here.
