Update From the Governor

Monday, June 29, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

Announcement From Governor Walz

Governor Walz has issued a curfew for Minneapolis and St. Paul prohibiting travel on public streets within public areas from 8pm tonight through 6am Saturday morning, and 8pm Saturday evening through 6am Sunday morning. There is a penalty for violating the executive order, but people in the following categories are exempt from the order:

  • All law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel.
  • Personnel authorized by the City of Minneapolis, City of Saint Paul, Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Minnesota State Patrol, or Minnesota National Guard.
  • Individuals seeking emergency care, fleeing dangerous circumstances, or experiencing homelessness are also exempt.

A Time to Grieve and Pursue Justice

I mourn for George Floyd, I pray for his family and his community, and I join my black and indigenous colleagues, and my colleagues of color, in being committed to achieving real change to eliminate the structural racism that has resulted in the deep inequities and loss of life that black Minnesotans and Minnesotans of color face in our state. What happened to Mr. Floyd can never happen again.
