Rep. Hunter Cantrell Statement Announcing Retirement from Minnesota House
St. Paul, Minn. – Representative Hunter Cantrell (DFL - Savage) today released the following statement announcing that he will not seek re-election:
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve my community in the Minnesota House. I’m deeply grateful for the experience I’ve had, and for the people who trusted me to bring their priorities to the Capitol.
“After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that now is an appropriate time to complete my bachelor’s degree, which was put on hold when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. Though I won’t be running for re-election, I look forward to continuing to work on lowering the cost of prescription drugs, providing opportunities for every child to receive a world-class education, and making Minnesota a place where everyone can thrive.”
Rep. Cantrell, 24, was elected in 2018 and championed measures to lower the cost of prescription drug prices, fully fund education, and ban conversion therapy.
