Rep. Tabke Announces $30 Million Investment in School Safety

Monday, October 21, 2019

Shakopee, MN – As part of Minnesota’s new bipartisan education budget passed earlier this year, Rep. Brad Tabke (DFL – Shakopee) announced that a $30 million investment in school safety, including $287,056 for the Shakopee Public School District, will be available October 30 as part of the 2020 Safe Schools Supplemental Aid.

“Minnesotans deserve safe and secure schools, and I join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in holding the protection of our students as the highest priority in our work at the Legislature,” said Rep. Tabke. “The funds that’ll be made available at the end of this month will better ensure that our community is able to address the unique safety needs of Shakopee’s schools.”

The 2020 State Schools Supplemental Aid is a one-time appropriation included with school districts’ Integrated Department of Education Aids System (IDEAS) payment. The law requires that the aid be used for costs associated with safe school activities such as mental health counseling, facility security enhancements, peace officer liaisons, gang resistance education training, and other safety provisions.
