Rep. Elkins Supports Gov. Walz Plan to Distribute $853 Million CARE Act Funding

Monday, June 29, 2020

St. Paul, MN- Today, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced a plan to distribute $853 million in relief to communities across the state impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. $841 million will be distributed to Minnesota counties, cities, and towns to support local government coronavirus relief efforts. $12 million will be allocated toward food shelves and food banks. The funding was authorized under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The distribution formula was negotiated by the leaders of the House and Senate Tax Committees. Bills reflecting this formula were passed by both the House and the Senate; but differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill could not be reconciled before the state Senate adjourned on Saturday morning,” said Rep. Steve Elkins (DFL - Bloomington.) “I am extremely pleased to see these funds being distributed to our cities as quickly as possible in a manner that reflects the intent of both legislative bodies.”

Representative Elkins represents portions of Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Edina, and Bloomington which will receive $4.7 million, $4.04 million, $3.9 million, and $6.7 million respectively, under the Governor’s plan.
