Release: House Redistricting Committee approves new redistricting maps

Thursday, December 9, 2021

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the House Redistricting Committee approved the new redistricting proposals for Minnesota. The legislative and congressional proposals, written testimony, and all materials can be found on the committee website.

“I truly believe this is the people’s map,” said Chair Mary Murphy (DFL-Hermantown). “Committee members in both parties talked in our working groups as we developed our maps. We listened to the public; we read the written testimony. Census workers in Minnesota did a tremendous job getting the greatest turnout of people who answered their questionnaire. The state demographer’s office and all the advocacy groups in the state that wanted to be counted did a tremendous job.

“Minnesota’s population has grown by 7.6%. The maps we passed today are fair and representative of that growth.”

“Nothing is more important in our jobs as representatives than listening to the people of Minnesota,” said Vice Chair Ginny Klevorn (DFL-Plymouth). “We listened to input from anyone who wanted to share their voice. We were attentive in considering the needs of Minnesota’s communities, cultures, and traditions. After all, legislative and congressional districts belong to the people, and should reflect the rich diversity of our state.”

The 2022 legislative session begins on January 31.
