Legislative Update – January 15, 2021

Friday, January 15, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

I want to sincerely thank everyone who took some time out of their weekend last Saturday to join Rep. Becker-Finn, Sen. Isaacson, and me for our Virtual Town Hall. Between our Zoom meeting and our livestream on Facebook, we had over 100 community members participate! Each of us is deeply grateful for the engagement and involvement in your state government.

If you missed it, you can watch the video on my Facebook page here. Due to a lack of time, there were many questions we couldn’t get to. Please feel free to email me at rep.kelly.moller@house.mn any time to share your thoughts on issues important to you.

Tracking Legislative Work

Today marks the end of the first full week of the legislative session. While we’re meeting remotely, technology allows us to carry a full schedule of committee hearings. Stay up to date with legislative activity via House Public Information Services’ nonpartisan resources here. You can watch our committee hearings and floor sessions remotely. I’m the Vice Chair of the Judiciary Finance and Civil Law committee and also serve on the following committees: Behavioral Health Policy Division, Education Policy, and Human Services Finance and Policy.

If you are interested in the bills I’ve authored, either as the chief author or co-author, you can find a list here. Many more bills will be added in the coming days and weeks. To follow the progress of other legislation you may be interested in, I encourage you to use the free “MyBills” tool on the Minnesota House of Representatives website. If you are interested in informing me about a bill you care about, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Legislative Priorities

Session Priorities

COVID-19 has challenged Minnesotans in impossible ways, and everyone in our state deserves to be safe, healthy, and have economic security. This week, my House DFL colleagues and I announced our first legislative priorities. While we have many additional priorities, our first five bills are largely focused on getting our state through the pandemic and helping ensure people can succeed and thrive again once it’s over. This package includes important measures I hope we can quickly work together to get done for Minnesotans in the areas of economic security, worker protections, health care and human services, education, and child care. You can read more about our initial priorities here.

New Vaccine Dashboard

Vaccine Dashboard

As COVID-19 continues to impact us, there is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine now being distributed in phases, starting with health care workers and long-term care residents. This week, the state of Minnesota launched a new COVID-19 Data Dashboard to provide a more visual and user-friendly way to view key vaccination data for our state. The dashboard includes information on the number of vaccine doses allocated to the state by the federal government, the number shipped to Minnesota providers, and the number ultimately administered to Minnesotans. The data will be updated daily at 11 a.m.

Every time I see a photo on social media of someone receiving the vaccine, I’m more encouraged that we’re step by step closer to ending this chapter. I’m hopeful the pace at which we receive the vaccine from the federal government will soon accelerate and we can quickly move on to additional phases.
