SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) announced that they found PFAS contamination in groundwater at 98 of the 101 closed landfill sites that they tested. 59 of these sites have contamination levels that exceed state safety guidelines. Rep. Ami Wazlawik (DFL – White Bear Township) released the following statement in response:
“Minnesotans should not face increased health risks due to chemical exposure,” said Rep. Wazlawik. “To protect Minnesotans’ health and our environment, we need to clean up our state’s landfills. We also must take steps to prevent contamination before it occurs, such as passing my bill to ban the use of PFAS in food packaging.”
