Legislative Update - Economic Relief for Businesses, Workers, and Families

Wednesday, November 25, 2020

Dear neighbors,

The COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges for small businesses and the Minnesotans whose livelihoods depend on them. We need to support them as they do their part to slow the spread of the virus. Yesterday, Governor Walz announced a COVID-19 economic relief package to keep small businesses afloat, support workers struggling to get by, and help Minnesota families keep food on their tables. I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues to get this done.

Economic Relief Package

In the meantime, state and local governments are providing financial assistance for Minnesotans. Ramsey County residents who’ve lost income due to COVID-19 may be eligible to receive help with their rent or mortgage payments, utilities, and repairs for cars used for work. You can find more information and apply for Emergency Assistance here. Washington County is offering assistance for renters and food support. You can read more about these programs here.

COVIDaware MN

Governor Walz recently unveiled a new mobile app to keep Minnesotans safe and informed as COVID-19 cases surge across the state. COVIDaware MN is a free tool that can alert you if you’ve been exposed to the virus. It informs you if you’ve been in contact with someone who’s contracted COVID-19, even if you don’t know them, so you can take steps to protect yourself and others right away. The app is voluntary and anonymous. You can download it and learn more here

Shop Small Saturday

Shop Small Saturday, an annual event that’s taking place this weekend, is a great opportunity to check out local businesses and support your favorite spots. Now more than ever, our small businesses need community support. Please consider getting takeout from a nearby restaurant, buying gift cards, or doing your holiday shopping locally if you can.

While the holidays will look a bit different this year, I hope you have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or feedback and let me know if I can be of assistance. You can contact me at rep.ami.wazlawik@house.com or 651-296-3018.

Sincerely,

Ami Wazlawik
