Rep. Wazlawik

Dear neighbors,

It’s starting to feel like fall outside! The changing weather is a reminder that local elections are around the corner. If you’re not sure if elections are being held in your area, you can find out by using the Polling Place Finder provided by the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office. Please take a few minutes to make sure that you’re registered to vote, find out what’s on the ballot, and check out early voting opportunities!

Addressing the Climate Crisis

Yesterday the Climate Action Caucus kicked off a series of community events with a conversation about transportation! One of our goals as a caucus is bringing people with different backgrounds and areas of expertise together. We’re holding these public hearings so Minnesotans can join legislators and experts at the table and be part of creating a bold plan to combat climate change.

The first community conversation was dedicated to transportation because it’s the largest source of Minnesota’s greenhouse gas emissions. We had a great discussion about this with several experts and the Minnesotans who joined us. Some of the potential solutions we discussed were expanding public transportation, supporting electric vehicles, and promoting biofuels.

Minnesota has an opportunity to be a national leader in this area. Governor Walz recently announced that Minnesota will be the first Midwestern state to adopt clean car standards. Minnesotans will have more options when choosing a car because manufacturers will sell vehicles that emit lower levels of greenhouse gases and other pollutants and vehicles with ultra-low or no tailpipe emissions, including electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. That means savings at the pump, better air quality, and a significant decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.

More information about clean car standards is available here and at mn.gov/cleancars.

Environmental Forum

As Minnesotans, we’re proud of our clean air and water, abundant natural resources, and outdoor heritage. We want to protect the things that make our state such a special place to live for future generations to enjoy. Since protecting the environment is a priority in our community and state, I’m holding a forum dedicated to this issue on Wednesday, November 20. I hope you can join me!
