Legislative Update - September 13, 2019

Friday, September 13, 2019

Dear neighbors,

I hope the first days of school have gone smoothly for everyone who recently began a new year. Here’s a brief update on what I’ve done this week:

Lake Links Trail Progress

Another section of the Lake Links Trail is now open! Yesterday I joined community members in Mahtomedi to celebrate the completion of another quarter-mile segment of the route. Once completed, the Lake Links Trail will circle all of White Bear Lake. I’ll do what I can at the Legislature to ensure that this project moves forward.

The White Bear Press recently published an update on the status of the trail. You can read it here.

Women’s Suffrage Day

On Sunday, I attended a Women’s Suffrage Day event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Minnesota’s ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. I appreciated the opportunity to recognize the women who fought to expand the right to vote, but for me, this event was special because we celebrated the women who came after the suffragists, too. We honored women who fought to extend the right to vote to women of color and Indigenous women, women who were the first or among the first to serve in various positions, and women who are still fighting for gender equality in Minnesota.

Current and former elected officials who were at the event all gathered on the Capitol steps for a photo.

White Bear Township Day

A friendly reminder that White Bear Township Day is tomorrow! Stop by Polar Lakes Park (1280 Hammond Road, White Bear Township, MN 55110) between 2 and 8 p.m. for live music, children’s activities, and more. I’ll be at the DFL booth all day – stop by and say hello!

It’s an honor to represent our community. Please feel free to contact me with questions or input.

Sincerely,

Ami Wazlawik
State Representative
