Release: DFL Doctors Support Statewide Mask Requirement

Wednesday, July 22, 2020

ST. PAUL, Minn. - On Wednesday, Governor Walz introduced an executive order requiring the wearing of masks in all indoor public spaces and businesses for Minnesotans aged 6 and over. In response, the three DFL doctors of the Minnesota Legislature, Senator Matt Klein (DFL-Mendota Heights), Representative Alice Mann (DFL-Lakeville), and Representative Kelly Morrison (DFL-Deephaven) released the following statement supporting the Governor’s decision.

“Universal mask usage, coupled with social distancing, staying home when sick, and washing your hands often, is the single best path to maintaining the health and wellbeing of our community in the time of COVID-19. This virus continues to be a threat, and one reason why the case rates continue to rise is the decreasing use of masks by Minnesotans. If we each wear a mask when we are in public, we'll be able to slow the spread of the infection and prevent situations like those we are seeing in Arizona, Florida and Texas. Universal mask wearing is essential if we are to continue to re-open our economy and return to public life. We support the decision by Governor Walz, which follows the latest guidance by the Centers for Disease Control and is supported by the latest research on this virus.”
