REP. MUNSON STATEMENT ON HIS “CROWLER” AMENDMENT TO THE HOUSE LIQUOR BILL

Saturday, May 16, 2020

[ST. PAUL, MN] - Representative Jeremy Munson (23B- Lake Crystal) made the following statement regarding his amendment to the Liquor Bill on the House Floor today:

"Today, I offered an amendment to the Liquor Omnibus Bill which would have allowed for 'small growler' and container sales under two liters. We should support sales of smaller quantities and allowing manufacturers of different size cans or bottles to compete. Special interests think this hurts their trucking and distribution businesses. It doesn't. Breweries cannot sell more than 750 barrels worth of beer in growlers and this is not changing. From a business standpoint, no manufacturer will retail a product that directly competes with their distribution network. Roughly 30% of our 170 breweries distribute. This amendment was about freedom for small businesses and consumers. Unfortunately, it did not pass.  I will continue to work to reform policy in this area to help our craft brewery industry recover from the economic contraction caused by the Peacetime Emergency."
