Capitol Newsletter from Rep. John Poston

Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

The 2019 legislative session officially began on Tuesday when I joined 133 of my colleagues in taking the oath of office. It truly is an honor to serve another term representing our area in the Minnesota House. As always, it remains my commitment to serve you and your family to the best of my ability.

Most of the week's events were ceremonial in nature with real legislative work set to begin on Monday as committees begin meeting. Committees are where I will spend much of my time during the first months of session as we debate the fine details of legislation, offer amendments to improve bills, and take public testimony on proposals.

I have been assigned to serve on three committees: Agriculture and Food Finance and Policy, Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Finance and Policy, and the Subcommittee on Corrections.

My committee assignments give me the opportunity to work on issues that are important to folks living in Wadena, Cass, and Todd Counties; things like ensuring that agriculture remains a priority at the legislature and that our communities are safe.

That’s all for this week’s update. I will have more updates for you as the session progresses as it’s sure to be a busy year. In the meantime, I urge you to contact me if you have any legislative questions, concerns, or ideas. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-5356 or via email at rep.john.poston@house.mn.
