SAINT PAUL – Tonight, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced a set of new public health guidelines aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 across the state of Minnesota.
State Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth), the House Majority Whip, issued the following statement:
“We’re at a critical time in our COVID-19 response, and Minnesotans are counting on strong action to keep our neighbors safe and healthy. Governor Walz is enacting some difficult but necessary measures in our efforts to stop the virus from spreading and ensure our health care system can take care of people. While these are the right moves by the Governor, I recognize the challenges and anxiety they are presenting to our small businesses. That’s why we urgently need our leaders in Washington to enact a federal relief package addressing the economic impacts the virus is having on not just businesses, but schools, health care providers, families, and local communities.”
State Rep. Jen Schultz (DFL – Duluth), chair of the House Long Term Care Division, issued the following statement:
“COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on Minnesotans. Cases continue to increase, as is the number of COVID patients requiring a critical care bed, and hospitals are approaching capacity and running low on staff, putting enormous pressure on doctors and nurses. This pandemic has resulted in tragic consequences, and just today Minnesota eclipsed 3,000 deaths. I thank Governor Walz for looking out for the health and safety of Minnesotans and making these tough choices. No one wants to have to stay home during the holidays, but nothing is more important than protecting our loved ones’ health. Like all of us, I’m optimistic a vaccine is around the corner, but in the meantime, we all have to do our part to help contain this horrific virus and keep our communities safe.”
