RELEASE: Rep. Layman, House Capital Investment Committee Visit Projects in Grand Rapids Area

Friday, September 20, 2019

St. Paul, MN—State Representative Sandy Layman, R-Cohasset, and the House Capital Investment Committee were in Itasca County yesterday to tour local projects seeking state bonding dollars in the upcoming legislative session.

“I am grateful that members of the House Capital Investment Committee took time to visit Itasca County to tour these critically important, local projects,” said Layman. “Visiting projects in person helps give members a true sense of the significance each project represents in our community.”

The first site visit took place at the Canisteo mine in Bovey where committee members learned about how rising water levels in the mine pit are leading to public safety and property damage concerns for residents in Bovey. The proposed project would allocate funding to alleviate these concerns and ensure the safety of community members and their property.

Committee members then visited Cohasset City Hall where they received a presentation from city officials regarding the proposed Mississippi Riverfront Marina and Boardwalk Development Project.

Following the visit to Cohasset, the committee headed to Itasca Community College (ICC) where city officials from Deer River presented on their bonding request that seeks funding for sewer and water system improvements. Members also toured campus where they learned about ICC’s asset preservation needs.

Members ended the day with a visit to the IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids where they toured the facility and heard a presentation on the need to repair portions of the civic center’s roof.

“Each of these projects is more than deserving and will have a significant, positive impact on the community. I am hopeful that the Capital Investment Committee will give them strong consideration when putting together next year’s bonding bill,” finished Layman.
